Tech geeks and most people are always looking for products that deliver what they want. This is true as well for digital cameras. A lot of people are looking for digital cameras that can take great pictures, that is performing like a digital SLR camera, but small at the same time. And this is exactly what the Canon PowerShot G10 is. The PowerShot G10 gives a near digital SLR camera features and it is small enough to qualify as an older model point and shoot digital camera.
So what does the G10 have? Physically it measures 109 x 77.7 x 45.9mm and weighs 350 grams excluding the battery and memory card. The lens is at 6.1-30.5mm that is like a 28-140mm on the traditional 35mm camera with f/2.8-f/4.5 aperture. You can take pictures at distances with the help of its 5x optical zoom. The Powershot G10 is packed with 14.7 megapixels with the highest resolution at 4416 x 3312 pixels in its 1/1.7in CCD. Free Norton Antivirus

Posted by JCO | 2/24/2009 04:34:00 AM | , | 0 comments »

Are you looking for a free antivirus? I have just found out free Norton Antivirus software from Google. That is right, you don't have to purchase anything with this installation. You just have to download it. But as what most free software or free antivirus is offering, this has limited capability compared to those that you can buy and subscribe.

The free antivirus software from Norton that Google is offering for free for download is the Norton Security Scan. It just basic protection and of course functions as what it is designed for. It will and can detect viruses and worms from your computer and also eliminates it as needed. And just like your normal antivirus software it offers free updates of the virus definitions that you have. Though the downside is, it does not protect you real time from attacks. But you can still schedule on when to scan your computer and check for an infection.

This particular antivirus is included in the Google pack that you can download for free. Included in the pack as well are different applications from Google like the Chrome web browser. But what I like as well is the Spyware Doctor Starter Edition. Though it has limited features as well unlike the one that you can get for a fee. But in any case, who cares. This is free Norton antivirus and free spyware protection. Better be protected even if it is limited protection than not being protected at all. I had tested the Spyware Doctor Starter Edition as well as the Norton Security Scan. So if you want to get free antivirus software and free anti spyware, you can download these for free from the Google Pack Beta.

You can now download device drivers for Windows 7 Beta operating system. Though the Windows 7 Beta download had already ended officially, you can still download the newest version of Microsoft's operating system from a lot of file sharing site. I tried searching for it in Torrent sites as well as Rapidshare and yes there are still a number of downloads available.

If you are already using the Windows 7 operating system, you can now download the official device drivers from Microsoft's download page for Windows 7 device drivers. You can visit Microsoft's site and search for the device driver that you need or you can simply get it here. The list is still limited and might not include a certain driver for a device that you are using since the drivers are for the beta version still. But once the final version is officially released, then you can expect to have the device drivers available. If you have already installed the Windows 7 and you can't find the device driver that you need, then use the one for Windows Vista. That should work fine except for a few that might not work at all. In that case then you will have to wait for the official release or revert to your old operating system.

Goodbye Asus Eee PC

Posted by JCO | 2/19/2009 10:27:00 PM | , | 1 comments »

If you are eyeing to get a netbook, specifically an Asus 8.9in Eee PC, better look for another model or brand. The reason is that Asus is phasing out the 8.9in Eee PCs within this year according to a company executive.

Even though a couple of high ranking official of Asus had indirectly said that the 8.9in Eee PC models will be phased out. The phasing out was mainly based on consumer preference for the 10in models which uses hard drives while the latter are using SSDs.

But whether the 8.9in Eee PCs will be phased out or not, there are still a lot of choices from the Asus Eee PC line.

Samsung NC10, typist-friendly

Posted by JCO | 2/18/2009 09:08:00 PM | | 1 comments »

The Samsung NC10 is South Korea's new entry to the world of small and cheap computers, the netbooks. But unlike most netbook, Samsung made an effort to make the NC10 distinct among its competitor netbooks. What made the Samsung NC10 distinct is its more than common keyboard. Samsung managed to fit in a larger than normal keys in the keyboard which makes it typist-friendly. If you are more into typing and you need a netbook, then definitely this is the right one for you. The downside is the touchpad is reduced to a mere 60mm x 30mm which is almost the same size with most netbooks. So why bother with this, you can always use a mouse. Another thing about the keyboard is that is is coated with ionic silver particles, whatever that is, which kills germs that lives in the spaces or even in the surface of the keyboard which makes it a number 1 choice for OC people.

The rest of the specifications are almost the same with most netbooks that are available. It is using the Intel Atom N270 processor clocked at 1.6GHz. Has a DDR2 RAM of 1GB. The NC10 is an old school when it comes to its hard drive. It has a 160GB solid-state drive which is susceptible bumps. For connectivity, it has a 10/100Mb/s Ethernet port, 802.11b/g and Bluetooth. Sadly it does not have 3G so users will have to depend on Wi-Fi. The screen is a 10.2in LED backlit display, with a 1.3MP camera mounted on the upper portion, which has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Samsung NC10 has a dimension of 261mm x 186mm x 40mm and weighs 1.3kg.

SanDisk, a flash card developer company, is partnering with Toshiba in developing 32-nanometer, 32-gigabit flash memory chips using SanDisk's X3 and the later X4 technology.

It seems like Sandisk is moving in the right and timely direction in developing flash memory chips that are multi-celled and using the 32nm technology. This is mainly because Intel also announced that it is developing new processors using the 32nm technology.

The production of the said chips and processors will begin end of this year as what Sandisk and Intel planned. At the same time Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and IBM is in partnership on doing the same process.

Using the 32nm technology will greatly increase storage capacity and also reduce the manufacturing costs of solid-state drives and memory cards according to both companies.

Mac OS X in PC

Posted by JCO | 2/15/2009 07:48:00 PM | | 0 comments »

PearC, a German computer manufacturer, is now selling personal computers (PCs) that have Mac OS X as the operating system. The company even has a slogan of "Der PC mit Mac OS X" ("The PC with Mac OS X"). This will be a challenge again for Apple for a Mac clone claiming to be a legal one. As PearC stated that the PC that has a Mac OS X is legal in Germany.

Currently, PearC has three configurations that it is selling. First is a PC with a dual-core processor, 750GB hard drive and a choice of GeForce 7200GS or GeForce 8400GS which sells around $650. Second is a Core 2 Quad processor PC with a Blu-ray optical drive. Buyers can also choose from a GeForce 8400GS, 9800GTX or 9800GT. Selling price is pegged at around $1000. The third will cost about $2000 and is using a Core i7 processor, 12GB of RAM and 1TB of hard drive storage space.

The battle whether it is legal to have a Mac OS X on a PC is for the courts to decide. It is Apple and PearC's battle. But as tech consumers, the questions that need to be answered is, will you buy or at least use a PC with a Mac OS X?

The Wasabi portable inkless photo printer was finally announced by Dell. I'm not sure what's with the name which is more of a food than the latest in gadget technology. But anyways the Wasabi photo printer is also known as the Dell PZ310 inkless photo printer which is more technology sounding.

I cant find any specifications for this inkless photo printer though aside from its dimension of 4.8in x 2.8in x 0.9in and it being a Bluetooth enabled gadget. So you can print your pictures directly from any Bluetooth-enabled device such as your mobile phone or camera. The technology used for inkless printing comes from Zink which is a specialist in inkless printing. The Dell Wasabi was designed to print 2 x 3in pictures.

If you're into photography or purely a technology buff then buy this now for $99 promotional price or be prepared to spend $149 later.

US TV stations may say goodbye to analog signal earlier than what was expected. TV stations are now planning to not to do analog broadcasts in as early as less than two weeks. Television viewers might as well say goodbye early to their antennas as the plan to move to digital TV is being pushed through. The US Congress is giving TV stations until June 12 to make the mandatory transition of analog to digital TV.

TV stations can turn off their analog broadcast as early as February 17 as long as the Federal Communications Commission is informed of the move. Majority of the TV stations prefer to make the early transition to minimize the cost of doing both digital and analog transmission.

The transition from analog to digital TV might be a good move for most TV stations but not for all of the viewers. Many citizens are still not prepared to make the transition. Perhaps some are preparing now and can make it by June 12. But for those who aren't, then expect that your TV will be useless, especially in urban areas, as early as February 17.

Google Inc., with its recent upgrade of its mobile maps, is hoping to prove to the world that its mobile maps can effectively track people on the move. The new software is yet to be released Wednesday. This upgrade, with the homing feature called Latitude, will hopefully let people share their whereabouts using mobile phones and other wireless devices.

The technology can pinpoint a person's location in a Google map and it basically relies on GPS, Wi-Fi connection and cell phone towers to know the location of a person. The system will be available in the US and 26 fortunate countries.

The upcoming Snow Leopard, Mac OS X version 10.6, operating system from Apple will include multi-touch capabilities and location awareness according to sources. The location awareness feature will be coming from the CoreLocation framework which is currently present in iPhone 2.0 SDK. Though the CoreLocation framework exists in iPhone OS, it has never existed on Apple's Macs.

CoreLocation utilizes the built-in GPS in iPhone, cell phone-tower triangulation and the Wi-Fi positioning data from Skyhook Wireless to pinpoint the location of an iPhone. This was termed by Apple as "geographical location technology."

Currently, MacBooks does not include GPS support or any cell-phone circuitry. It do have Wi-Fi so it is assumed that Snow Leopard's CoreLocation framework will solely rely on the Wi-Fi positioning.

The rumored release date of the Mac OS 10.6.0 or Snow Leopard was first quarter of this year.

This century can be the considered as the wireless age. Everything seems to be connected wirelessly, from the wireless telephone from years ago to the wireless mouse and keyboard of today. And not only that, we used to connect to the internet using hardwired DSL connection. But nowadays, with the advanced technology that we have, internet connection can be done wirelessly as well.

Wireless internet connectivity is so common today. With all the cellular services in the world, wireless mobile broadband is as common as having a mobile phone. Most people are now using mobile phones that can browse the internet. But the challenge is the limited display screen of mobile phones. So a lot still prefer laptops or netbooks for internet browsing and using wireless mobile broadband.

The only problem with most wireless mobile broadband service provider is they will bind you with a contract. So if you are the type that do use, but not that often, wireless mobile broadband you will feel that you are not getting your money's worth of service. This is where RovAir Data Card Rental comes in. RovAir provides wireless mobile connectivity without a contract. All you have to do is avail of their data card rental. It is so simple, you make the order and they ship out the equipment together with the installation CD. After installation, you can use the service right away. And once you don't need the service just ship the equipment back with the prepaid shipping label that RovAir will also provide. Now that is what I call mobile broadband service.

Toshiba TG01, a smartphone

Posted by JCO | 2/03/2009 11:23:00 AM | | 0 comments »

Not really expected, Toshiba has launched a beautiful mobile phone that is touchscreen.

The company said that used all its know-how in the TV industry and applied it to create TG01's 4.1in, 800 x 480 touchscreen, which leads to a smart phone that will "revolutionize the world of mobile entertainment" - that is according to Toshiba.

While only 9.9 mm thick and slightly higher than the iPhone, the TG01 has crams in 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi and on-board A-GPS. A-GPS is not good if you cannot find the right application, however. Thus, Toshiba smartphone is equipped with a trackpad and virtual "G-Sensor", which is like an accelerometer that can tilt the phone in a given point.

There are no words for this camera's capability yet. There is a Micro SD card slot included that can support 32 gigabytes of storage. DivX and Flash support, and direct access to YouTube and Facebook is supported. Toshiba has decided to implement TG01 3D Windows Mobile 6.1 user interface and business development. The phone's processing capabilityis pegged at 1 GHz based on a Qualcomm chip dragon.

A price or date of publication has not yet been revealed so tech and gadget buffs, keep posted!

I know there are a lot of mp3 or mp4 players around. The iPod might have been the dominant player in the world today but they don't have a wireless music player yet.

If you hate music players with wires, then you might consider the Logitec LBT-AR200C2 music player. No, that is not a typo, it is really from Logitec, without the "h". Well what makes this player cool is the absence of wires. You can listen to your favorite music wirelessly. Thanks to the Bluetooth technolgy.

The device weighs 17g and can last up to 200 hours. Wolfson Audio Plus 3D audio technology is used in this music player. And for those people who want aesthetics, well this device is available in 4 colors. That's it!
