The world's first, as claimed by Toshiba, 2.5-inch, 512GB solid-state drive for notebooks has been unveiled Thursday.
The new SSDs will be available in 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB storage capacities. Also it will come in 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch enclosures. Read/write speeds are timed at 240 MBps and 200MBps. It also has a serial ATA-2 interface. The weight varies from half an ounce to about 2 ounces depending on the model.
The new solid-state drive is not available for this year though. The new product will be mass produced by second quarter of next year and samples can be obtained in the first quarter. No pricing yet from Toshiba as of this time.
